Vancouver startup Notify allows you to subscribe directly to your favorite content creators, no matter what platform they’re publishing on.
Co-founded by YouTube and Twitch creator Jaime Pine and engineer Matteo Martellini, the Notify app recently launched on iOS and Android.
Notify allows creators to send push notifications for content hosted anywhere including YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Twitch, Twitter, and more. When opened, the notifications “deeplink” into the destination app or browser and launch that content.
Pine announced the launch by way of blog post earlier this week,”With millions of careers being built on platforms such as YouTube, Twitch and TikTok—it has become clear that subscriptions are not a priority over algorithms to most content platforms, while this drives more novel traffic to viral content, it is increasingly becoming harder for creators to build long term connections with fans.”
Notify also includes a messaging system built specifically for creators to interact with as many fans as possible, with sortable topics, a feed of open conversations and the ability to swipe through missed interactions from those that deserve the attention the most.
Even streaks can be earned through consistent interaction, granting rewards such as custom notification sounds, with many more potential rewards to come.
Our vision for the future is one where creators have total independence and control of their craft, and that includes the distribution of it.
Every creator on the platform has their own sub.to page—Pine’s is sub.to/jamiepine—that includes their relevant social links as well as a link to their presence on Notify. If a creator is not on the app, their fans can notify Notify, which will subsequently create automated sub.to pages until they are officially claimed.
As a creator, you won’t be surprised to hear that Pine has chronicled the three year development of Notify online and you may even recognize the Shaughnessy mansion in his Inside a Tech Startup House – Building an App video.
What brought the UK entrepreneur and his team to Vancouver?
“The initial reason I chose Vancouver was after a simple Google image search, seeing how beautiful it is — the mountainous backdrop over the city skyline blew my mind,” Pine told Techcouver.
“To then learn that the tech scene here is growing and Canada is very welcoming in terms of visa options for my multi-national team. It seemed perfect. Now, after living here for all this time it already feels like home and I hope to grow Notify from here in the years to come.”
Notify raised a $1 million pre-seed round in 2019 from Ludlow Ventures, Shrug Capital, and Betaworks.
