New Electric Vehicle Chargers Coming to British Columbia

July 30, 2021 by Techcouver Newsdesk Leave a Comment

The Government of Canada is making it easier for Canadians to drive electric – transforming the way Canadians get to where they need to go.

As part of #EVWeekinCanada, the Honourable Hedy Fry, Member of Parliament for Vancouver Centre, announced a combined investment of over $800,000 for 170 electric vehicle (EV) chargers to help British Columbians go electric, putting them in the driver’s seat on the road to a net-zero future.

These contributions will help install 168 Level 2 EV connectors and two fast chargers across the province to support Canada’s net-zero future. Among the new chargers are 60 at BCIT’s Burnaby campus, 20 across the City of Delta, 34 at QuadReal Property projects, 36 at Canada House in Olympic Village, and 20 in the District of Saanich.

Funded through Natural Resources Canada’s Electric Vehicle and Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Deployment Initiative and Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program, all chargers will be available for public use between now and this winter.

Since 2015, Canada has made investments of over $1 billion to make EVs more affordable and charging infrastructure more locally accessible. These investments are building a coast-to-coast network of fast chargers and installing chargers in local areas where Canadians live, work and play.
