The European Union is turning to a Vancouver startup for help in developing an automated transit bus system.

Spare Labs is one of five companies taking part in the EU-funded FABULOS (Future Automated Bus Urban Level Operation Systems) project to develop driverless buses that can safely interact with regular traffic.

Spare’s mission is to help accelerate the global shift to efficient and autonomous mobility by enabling anyone to realize, launch and analyze a smart transportation network in seconds.

Spare Labs was founded by UBC alumni Josh Andrews, Alexey Indeev and Kristoffer Vik Hansen, who originally working on a ride hailing app that matched commuting drivers with passengers willing to carpool.
