Polish game studio CD PROJEKT RED is acquiring Vancouver game development studio Digital Scapes. The Warsaw-headquartered studio is responsible for the much-hyped title Cyberpunk 2077.
Digital Scapes was founded in 2012 by industry veterans hailing from BioWare, Radical Entertainment and Relic and currently employs a dozen experienced game creators.
Along with the acquisition news, CD PROJEKT RED announced it is overhauling its development strategy to change the way the studio develops video games. The changes will allow CD PROJEKT RED to work on multiple AAA games and expansions in parallel starting in 2022.
The two studios have been working together closely for three years and Digital Scapes were heavily involved in the making of Cyberpunk 2077, assisting with game development and optimizing various features.
According to Paweł Zawodny, CD PROJEKT RED Head of Production and CTO, the talented Digital Scapes crew will be the foundation of a wider CD PROJEKT RED Vancouver team. CD PROJEKT RED Vancouver will join three existing development teams based in Warsaw, Kraków and Wrocław to jointly work on the Studio’s upcoming projects.
“We are very excited to join a studio that forges the incredibly engaging, vastly scoped experiences, such as The Witcher trilogy and Cyberpunk 2077. We believe our contribution in the area of gameplay and technology can make them even more captivating. Being a Polish Canadian, I personally take great satisfaction in building bridges between Canadian and Polish game development industries,” commented Digital Scapes’ Marcin Chady on the acquistion.
“This is a great opportunity for Canadian developers to get involved with CD PROJEKT RED’s incredible IP and for CD PROJEKT RED to tap into Canada’s deep talent pool and game-making craft.”
The newly formed CD PROJEKT RED Vancouver is hiring.
