One month ago legal single-sports betting and online gambling expanded significantly in Ontario thanks to new regulations that allow private-sector operators of online sportsbooks to legally take bets in Canada’s most populous province.
This new internet gambling market goes by the moniker of iGaming and one under-the-radar unicorn could lead an iGaming resurgence in Vancouver. **For those of you new to Vancouver’s tech ecosystem, Calvin Ayre’s online gambling company Bodog was the talk of the town in the early 2000s.
Vancouver-headquartered GeoComply checks the location of bettors for iGaming sites in milliseconds to ensure that every wager is from a legitimate user. According to sources familiar with the industry, GeoComply is working in the background of 95% of iGaming transactions across North America.
To support that claim, check out the video GeoComply shared the day after the Ontario launch featuring a storm of geolocation transactions suggesting that there were a lot of bettors ready to place their first wager.
Congratulations to all of our partners in Ontario who participated in the new #iGaming market launch yesterday!

The successful launch of iGaming in Ontario bodes well for the rest of Canada as other provinces look to follow their lead with looser regulations.
One company that is betting on the proliferation of iGaming is Strive Gaming.
Strive is set to become the leading B2B real money and free to play iGaming platform in North America. It is the first platform business specifically set up to satisfy the modern, multi-state requirements of US operators and is ready for future regulatory developments in Canada.
In a statement, Strive said it will deliver technical performance at scale using modern, proprietary player account management technology (PAM), with a roadmap and development team that is “focused purely on solving the challenges faced by operators in the North American market”.
And they’re having success solving those challenges for some big name customers. They recently added Golden Nugget to their customer roster, initially powering their online sportsbook launch in the state of Arizona and with plans to extend the partnership into the Ontario market.
While Strive has a presence in England and Malta, they have chosen Vancouver as their home base and plan to add 50 employees over the next 12 months.
Sweden’s Betsson is an investor in Strive in addition to being a customer. With a growing number of high-profile customers, Strive is all-in on North America
Strive is hiring for roles across many departments. Check out their latest job openings.
