Is Electronic Arts Up For Grabs?

May 25, 2022 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

Electronic Arts may be seeking an acquisition, recent rumours indicate.

Executives at the Burnaby-based game development studio have allegedly held talks with companies such as Apple, Amazon, and Walt Disney. The topic of discussion? A possible merger or takeover, a report from Puck News suggests.

Apple and the other “potential suitors” declined to comment, but EA’s share price still rose in response to the rumour.

Typically, EA is on the buying side of things, such as last year’s acquisition of Victoria’s Metalhead Software.

The long-standing EA Vancouver employs more than 1,200 at its sprawling 17-acre Burnaby campus, rendering it the province’s largest digital-arts employer.

The ever-expanding company plans to lease a three-storey, 180,000-square-foot building currently in construction in Burnaby, and possibly more. Doing so could allow the capacity for up to 600 more workers.

EA makes several hit games, including the iconic Sims franchise and annual sport classics like FIFA and NHL.
