Vancouver’s RAM Consulting Announces First Expansion Beyond BC

April 13, 2023 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

A Vancouver-based consulting firm specializing in construction management and engineering services this month opened an innovation hub in downtown Calgary.

It is the first interprovincial expansion for BC-born RAM Consulting.

The Calgary office will develop, test, and implement ideas to benefit infrastructure development, according to a recent statement. The centre in Bow Valley Square is already operating and will be supported by the expertise of Kelowna’s Encepta Corp, a data startup which the company acquired in 2021.

The tech-forward RAM expects to bring up to 200 jobs to the region of Calgary over the next four years.

Ranked one of Canada’s Top Growing Companies for five consecutive years, RAM specializes in project and construction management, multi-discipline engineering services, and quality and safety management in the transportation, telecommunications, utilities and energy sectors.

“Our mission to create vibrant communities through safe and sustainable infrastructure extends to supporting those communities through local partnerships, such as with the Women in Consulting Engineering Calgary Chapter and Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids,” stated Joe Di Placito, President, RAM Consulting

The Builders Code Champion says it chose Alberta for its expansion in part due to the province’s “can-do” attitude, which aligns with the company’s corporate culture.

“In moving to Alberta, we are expanding our business and investing in the community,” Di Placito said.

Calgary’s “affordability and availability of strong technical talent to support RAM’s diverse clients” solidified the company’s decision.

RAM says it plans to leverage the Alberta space to innovate the construction sector through technological disruption.

“Technology is going to disrupt our sector, specifically in engineering, probably the most, and we’re excited about applying new innovation to our industries,” Di Placito informed the Calgary Herald. “Quite frankly, we think Calgary is a place that’s open to new ideas and testing new technologies, so that’s why we want to have our hub out there.”

Invest Alberta supported RAM, providing market and funding information and facilitating partner connections.

“As a hub for innovation, Alberta is attracting leading companies like RAM and innovative ideas that will influence our future,” stated Rick Christiaanse, CEO, Invest Alberta. “With access to skilled talent and a reputation for being an ideal place to live, work, and grow a business, Alberta has what it takes to help ambitious companies like RAM expand their reach.”

Since 2020, Invest Alberta has supported the commitment of $20 billion in investment that has created 24,000 jobs for Albertans.

RAM Consulting was founded in Vancouver in 2007.
