10 BC Startups That Should Be On Your Radar This Fall

August 31, 2023 by Robert Lewis 1 Comment

New Ventures BC has announced the Top 10 companies of this year’s startup competition.

The New Ventures BC Competition started in 2000, under the direction of Wal van Lierop, to encourage innovation in BC’s tech sector.

Since then, the organization has supported 2,360 startups, who have created 3,720+ jobs and have raised $302 million in financing.

Who made the final cut?

Just 10 companies are still in the running for over $250,000 in cash and prizes in this year’s New Ventures BC Competition, presented by Innovate BC. In alphabetical order, the Top 10 are:

  • Blanka, Vancouver
  • Browse AI, Vancouver
  • Ginger Desk, North Vancouver
  • Immfinity Biotechnologies, Vancouver
  • Leasey.AI, Vancouver
  • Orca Water, Burnaby
  • Pilot, North Vancouver
  • RetreatsAndVenues.com, North Vancouver
  • Seleste, Vancouver
  • Viridis Research, Vancouver

Many of the top 10 finalists will be familiar to Techcouver readers.

Just last week Blanka announced a $2.7 million seed round for its private label beauty and wellness platform. Founded in 2021 by Kaylee Astle, Doug Long, and Adam Chuntz (pictured above), Blanka allows anyone to launch a new beauty brand in under an hour, for less than $200.

Earlier this month Browse AI and their “no-code web data extraction platform” secured $3.8 million from a range of venture capitalists and angels.

Great article! Not public but Pilot also raised $900K in a preseed, finalized earlier this year. Could the article be updated to include that? Thank you!
