Climate Risk Forecasting Startup Planette Lands Techstars Seattle Investment

October 10, 2023 by Robert Lewis Leave a Comment

Vancouver startup Planette has landed an investment from Techstars Seattle.

Founded in 2022 by CEO Hansi Singh and CTO Kalai Ramea, Planette leverages AI-powered, science-informed climate hazard forecasts that make it possible to forecast risks from wildfires, extreme heat, severe storms, and other climate hazards a season, a year, and up to several years ahead.

Through these ‘year-casts’, Planette provides game-changing, actionable climate intelligence for major sectors including national defense, insurance, construction, finance, and renewable energy.

“We are delighted to welcome Planette into Techstars” said Marius Ciocirlan, Managing Director at Techstars Seattle. “Given Hansi’s and Kalai’s science and technical background, I feel strongly they have the right founder-market fit that will enable them to gain great traction during their time in Seattle and well after as they expand their team back in Vancouver.”

Techstars expanded to Seattle in 2010, and since then more than 144 companies have gone through the program. They have collectively gone on to raise more than $2.8 billion in private capital and the 2011 class alone produced three unicorns.

Techstars Seattle offers early-stage startups the opportunity to accelerate their growth and increase their chances of success. With access to funding, office space, a supportive community, and experienced mentors, they help founders find product-market fit quickly and overcome common startup challenges.

Techstars Seattle actively recruits startups globally, inviting them to participate in a three-month accelerator experience in Seattle — a city renowned as a hub of major innovations in software, and home to tech giants such as Microsoft and Amazon — before the companies return to their home cities to build and scale their businesses.
