CICE Earmarks $10 Million for Startups Innovating Clean Energy Solutions in B.C.

July 10, 2024 by Bulletin Board Leave a Comment

Earlier this year, the BC Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy (CICE) announced Sarah Goodman as the organization’s new Chief Executive Officer.

Known as CICE, the organization is an independent nonprofit corporation that provides early-stage investment to fast-track the commercialization of  impactful clean energy solutions.

This includes a recently revealed $10 million in non-dilutive investment earmarked for local entrepreneurs working on low-carbon hydrogen solutions, battery technology advancement, energy storage solutions, and more.

Starting today, until August 1st, companies can apply for a slice of this freshly baked capital pie.

“We are proud to champion the growth of British Columbia’s most transformative clean energy and climate solutions,” says Goodman.

The CEO of CICE describes B.C. as a “clean technology powerhouse,” noting that the province is “home to a quarter of Canada’s clean tech companies.”

Goodman also highlighted her organization’s contributions to this powerhouse.

“With $24 million invested in 36 groundbreaking clean energy and climate projects worth over $145 million, CICE is B.C.’s largest early-stage climate investor,” the chief stated.

This round, the organization is seeking startups that are using low carbon hydrogen to decarbonize industrial sectors; enhancing the competitiveness and sustainability of battery and energy storage systems; and scaling second-generation biofuels through the diversification of feedstocks such as agricultural and forest residues, among other desirable innovations.

In May, CICE offered up to $3 million for B.C. innovators commercializing technology targeting wildfires.

The B.C. Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy was established in October of 2021.
