Last year, Vancouver’s Ionomr Innovations closed a US$20 million Series A round of funding before being named to the annual Global Cleantech 100 for the third time in a row.
In 2025, the B.C. clean-tech upstart is expanding operations through the launch of a state-of-the-art development and manufacturing facility situated in Charlestown, Massachusetts, the company announced this week.
The strategic Hood Park location is at the heart of Metro Boston’s research and innovation scene, according to Ionomr, which develops and manufactures polymer and membrane technologies for next-generation hydrogen applications.
“Ionomr’s continued expansion is core to the company’s strategy to develop and manufacture innovative world-class sustainable products,” stated chief executive officer Bill Haberlin.
“When these platforms are coupled with our unique reference design approach, it allows our solutions to be seamlessly integrated into OEM platforms to meet the wide range of market requirements,” he continued.
The new facility is 22,000 square feet in size and is expected to generate more than 40 jobs over the next three years.
“Establishing the Boston-area facility provides access to some of the most highly skilled engineering talent in the industry as we continue to grow our advanced technology and manufacturing teams,” said Ben Britton, cofounder and Chief Technology Officer of Ionomr.
Ionomr’s advancements in electrochemistry, rendered as flagship Pemion and Aemion technologies, promise cost, performance, and sustainability advantages for fuel cells, hydrogen production, and energy storage.
The company was founded in Vancouver in 2017 and currently employs more than 50 professionals across B.C., Boston, and New York.
