PacifiCan has announced over $17 million in funding for 10 organizations aimed at scaling up businesses in British Columbia’s key sectors, including life sciences, clean technology, and construction.
The investment, delivered through PacifiCan’s Business Acceleration Pilot (BizAP), will enhance access to capital, expand commercial networks, and strengthen B.C.’s position as a leader in innovation.
Since its launch in October 2023, BizAP has been tailored to meet the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the province, from Victoria to Prince George.
“British Columbian businesses are leading the way in life sciences, clean technology, and beyond,” said a PacifiCan representative at the agency’s new headquarters in Surrey. “With this investment, we’re giving them the tools they need to scale up, attract investors, and compete in national and international markets.”
Among the recipients is SFU VentureLabs, awarded $2.5 million over three years to launch PeraGo, a new program supporting deeptech companies transitioning from seed to Series A growth stages. The initiative will provide tailored support for science-driven startups, helping them secure investors and expand their global reach.
“The PacifiCan funding is vital in advancing our mission to support the next wave of science-driven innovators in B.C.,” said Dr. Lesley Esford, Executive Director of SFU VentureLabs. “With BizAP’s support, we’re helping science-based startups achieve commercial success and contribute to the global innovation landscape.”
These new investments are expected to create more than 2,500 jobs and support over 900 businesses across British Columbia. By strengthening the province’s innovation ecosystem, PacifiCan aims to ensure local companies remain competitive in the global marketplace.
With PacifiCan’s new headquarters in Surrey, the agency now has staff across nine communities in B.C. and in Ottawa, providing regionally tailored support to help businesses scale up and thrive. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to foster economic growth and innovation throughout the province.
