Shopping for a new vehicle is an inevitable but often dreaded aspect of adulthood.
Seeking to simplify the experience for automobile consumers in Canada, a startup launched from Vancouver is applying modern technology to achieve its mission.
Founded in 2022 by Vivian Liu, Making Auto Easy helps users navigate the car market with a personalized digital platform.
The upstart’s flagship offering is Matchmaker. Released last year, Matchmaker brings an element of “online dating” to car shopping by matching personal preferences to suitable vehicles within an area.
While open to all Canadians, MAE’s platform is designed to target female shoppers amidst a male-dominated auto industry, CEO Liu says.
“With Mae, you’ll walk into the dealership confident in your knowledge and decision,” the complain claims online, describing the process as “a guided car shopping experience created with women in mind.”
Liu’s experience in the auto space hails from several years climbing the ranks at General Motors, which she has described as “the learning experience of a lifetime.”
In 2023, Liu won a Startup Canada Tour pitch competition. The entrepreneur, who was also named to the BC Business 30 Under 30, is preparing to go back on stage.
This year, MAE is among the female-powered firms slated to be honoured at DMZ’s Women Innovation Summit on March 6th, which is positioned as part of the International Women’s Day on March 8th.
DMZ’s Summit will incorporate events throughout the day, from breakfast in the morning to afternoon roundtables and an evening pitch competition.
Alongside other females, Liu will pitch on-stage, competing for a grand total of up to $150,000 in prizes.
Selected from more than 200 applications nationwide, MAE is the only entity from British Columbia competing.
