Dapper Labs and Coinbase Collab to Foster Web3 Ecosystem in Vancouver

March 20, 2025 by Knowlton Thomas 1 Comment

Canada has been ranked among the most crypto-aware nations on Earth.

Last year, Coinbase’s “Stand with Crypto” campaign expanded north to Canada‘s five million coin holders.

The Stand with Crypto campaign champions “common-sense regulations” for the crypto industry with an aim to disrupt North America’s traditional financial system by encouraging the adoption and legitimacy of cryptocurrency assets as legal currencies and investments.

The move North was part of the fintech titan’s mission “towards driving regulatory clarity in Canada,” according to Coinbase Canada chief executive Lucas Matheson.

Matheson will be among those kicking off Stand with Crypto’s launch in Vancouver on March 27th.

The regional Stand with Crypto will be held at the offices of local blockchain startup Dapper Labs, a Vancouver-born pioneer in the volatile NFT space.

The goals of the event include uniting web3 builders and crypto advocates across Canada, supporting related businesses, and cultivating a blockchain ecosystem that drives economic growth.

“Connect with like-minded individuals and ignite conversations that will drive collaboration across Canada’s Web3 ecosystem,” reads a description of the event. ”Let’s shape the future of Canada’s crypto industry—together.”

Matheson will speak alongside Roham Gharegozlou, who serves Dapper as chief executive officer.

“Whether we’re talking about our work, social lives, entertainment, or education, software runs it all,” states Gharegozlou’s Dapper online. “Web 3 is a set of technologies that enables software to be open—accessible by anyone, controlled by no one, and trusted by everyone.”

In addition to Matheson and Gharegozlou, Vancouver mayor Ken Sim is also on the roster of speakers. Sim intends to discuss efforts to make the City more crypto-friendly.

The event, slated for 5pm-9pm on Thursday at 565 Great Northern Way, is free to join.

Coinbase’s northern expansion of Stand with Crypto is part of a conscious effort to “go deeper” into international markets such as Canada, which is now the firm’s largest market outside the US.

The company employs more than 200 full-time workers in Canada since hiring here starting in 2021.

Coinbase is also an investor in multiple Canadian crypto startups, including Dapper Labs.
