The B.C. Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy (CICE) has partnered with university entrepreneurship programs across the province to boost cleantech innovation—with the deadline to apply fast approaching.
The 2025 University Call for Innovation offers early-stage, B.C.-incorporated climate ventures up to $100,000 in non-dilutive funding. Nominated by their university entrepreneurship programs, selected ventures will receive up-front investments ranging from $75,000 to $100,000. Applications close May 7, 2025.
The funding targets the gap between early-stage validation and commercialization—technologies progressing through what’s known as Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 4 to 9.
Eligible ventures must be nominated by one of six participating programs: entrepreneurship@UBC (Vancouver and Okanagan), UVic Innovation Centre, SFU VentureLabs, BCIT Entrepreneurship Program, and UNBC’s Innovation Program.
“We’re stepping in at a crucial stage to ensure promising climate technologies don’t lose steam due to funding gaps,” said CICE. “This program helps turn research into commercially viable solutions.”
Priority will be given to technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions in CICE’s key focus areas: battery technology and energy storage, bio and synthetic fuels, carbon management, and low carbon hydrogen.
