A startup launched from Vancouver Island is seeking to render “tourism a force for good” through technological applications.
Victoria’s Tourismo is a “destination management platform” with an aim to empower collaboration and foster a sustainable tourism industry, according to a statement from the company, helping creators craft and share quality, interactive storytelling content that enchants visitors, inspires action, and delivers measurable impact.
“We’re excited to apply our decades of experience in marketing and technology to an initiative that creates a positive impact,” founder Chris Nohr stated this year. “Collaboration is a powerful lever for change, enabling the tourism industry to grow sustainably.”
By enhancing collaborative marketing and development efforts, the AI-powered Tourismo bridges the gap between communities, travel operators, and marketers, Nohr says, ensuring even the smallest voices are amplified through high-quality content across multiple channels.
Tourismo was conceived at The Number, a creative technology company based in Victoria, and currently boasts 45,000 travellers using the platform.
Features of the Tourismo platform include gamified loyalty programs featuring redeemable points and a leaderboard, first-party data and metrics including geo-tagged analytics, and automated reporting to keep partners and collaborators in the loop.
Among those 45K users is Blair Berdusco, Executive Director of the Alberta Small Brewer’s Association, who says that platform has helped power nationally recognized campaigns like the BC Ale Trail and the Alberta Ale Trail.
“Tourismo has provided our craft beer sector with an opportunity to collaborate with Travel Alberta and destination marketers across the province,” said Berdusco. “The platform ensures that every brewery and community’s voice is heard, sharing what is uniquely special about craft beer in Alberta.”
Earlier this month, Tourismo won Emerging Startup of the Year at the 23rd annual VIATEC Awards celebrating technology excellence on Vancouver Island.
“BC’s world-class tourism industry and thriving technology sector sets our province apart,” stated Minister Spencer Chandra-Herbert, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Sport, and Culture. “I’m thrilled to see a homegrown tech start-up embracing the collaborative spirit to showcase BC’s successes around the world.”
Tourismo was founded in 2024.
