Vancouver-based legaltech startup Walter is deepening its partnership with Fasken, one of Canada’s largest law firms, through a new Joint Innovation Program focused on building the Walter AI Assistant — an agentic AI tool designed to transform how legal professionals work.
The collaboration will integrate the Walter AI Assistant directly into Microsoft Outlook and the Walter platform, automating key tasks such as entity creation, data entry, compliance management, and document drafting. It will also be able to answer nuanced legal operations questions, all from within tools lawyers already use daily.
Fasken’s Emerging Technology and Venture Capital group is helping shape the development of the assistant, applying their real-world experience to ensure the AI reflects the demands of modern legal workflows.
“By freeing us from repetitive tasks, the Walter AI Assistant will help us focus on the value-added work our clients expect of us,” said Constantinos Ragas, Partner and Co-Leader of the Emerging Technology Group at Fasken.
“The legal industry is experiencing a paradigm shift with the advent of agentic AI capabilities. The Walter AI Assistant is more than just another piece of office software; it’s a game-changing tool that puts us at the forefront of this technological revolution.”
The announcement builds on an existing partnership between Fasken and Walter, first established in 2023. As Fasken continues advising high-growth companies and venture capital funds, the firm sees AI as a powerful tool to reduce administrative load and focus more on strategic legal work.
Walter’s push into AI aligns with a broader trend of legaltech innovation as law firms seek to increase efficiency, streamline operations, and enhance client service through intelligent automation.
