British Columbians are invited to explore a bold new climate opportunity during a webinar hosted by NorthX Climate Tech on July 29th.
The event will feature the authors of a new report, Biocarbon Rising: From Concept to Commercialization, who will unpack how BC could lead the world in scaling biocarbon solutions to decarbonize heavy industry.
The report—developed in partnership with Energy Super Modelers and International Analysts (ESMIA)—offers the first comprehensive roadmap for commercializing biocarbon in Canada. It identifies BC’s forestry residues, agricultural by-products, and organic waste streams as high-potential feedstocks, and points to thermochemical conversion methods like pyrolysis and gasification as among the most scalable technologies.
Biocarbon, a carbon-rich material derived from biomass, is increasingly seen as critical for cutting emissions in hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, cement, and aviation. The report argues that with the right investments and policy frameworks, BC can turn its natural and industrial advantages into global leadership in the biocarbon economy—displacing fossil carbon by 2030 and beyond.
In addition to mapping the path to commercialization, the report includes market outlooks, investment projections, and policy tools needed to unlock Canada’s biocarbon potential.
The Biocarbon Rising report is available for download now, and more background can be found in a recent NorthX blog post titled Understanding Biocarbon and its Climate Impact.
