Vancouver Tech Startup Journeys Overseas to Battle-Test Housing Solutions in Saudi Arabia

July 28, 2025 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

Earlier this year, we reported on an emerging property technology company that unveiled a platform promising to revolutionize affordable housing delivery.

Vancouver-based Meton AI is behind UNLOCKLAND, an artificially intelligent platform that aims to bring clarity, accessibility, and fairness to what chief executive officer Stephen Wang describes as “the most uncertain industry.”

UnlockLand deploys a multi-agent AI architecture, Wang says. These agents collaborate across Planning, Design, Market, and Finance to simulate an experienced development team. This team can perform zoning analysis, risk assessments, financial projections, and more.

The primary feature of UnlockLand is reducing site evaluation time by orders of magnitude—from an average of 10 weeks to as little as 10 minutes.

Meton AI is a member of the BC Tech Association.

BC Tech is the largest member-led technology non-profit in British Columbia, and we’re dedicated to turning startups and scaleups into the anchor companies of tomorrow. Our work supports members to grow and diversify their talent pool, acquire new customers, access capital and accelerate their scaleup journey. Technology is a key industry for BC’s future and builds resiliency in every industry. Today, every company is a tech company. Join now.

This breakthrough enables small and medium-sized developers to compete with industry giants who traditionally monopolize development opportunities through superior resources and expertise, according to the entrepreneur, and encouraging collaboration with municipalities.

The B.C. startup announced this month that it was recently selected to join Saudi Arabia’s flagship Vision 2030 Future Built Assets Program.

UnlockLand was one of just 10 international startups chosen by Saudi Arabia’s National Technology Development Program and Real Estate General Authority to collaborate with government ministries as the Kingdom works toward achieving a goal of building 1.5 million new homes by 2030.

“This partnership demonstrates how Canadian AI can address global challenges while creating economic opportunities at home,” stated Wang.

“As Canada faces its own housing crisis, we’re proving our solutions can scale internationally,” the CEO remarked. “We’re not just exporting technology—we’re demonstrating how Canadian values of transparency and sustainability can create value in global markets.”

Fellow cofounder Rodger Du, who serves his startup as CFO, describes hosing affordability as “a global crisis requiring innovative solutions.”

“Our platform demonstrates how Canadian technology can create international value while supporting domestic priorities,” he noted.

UnlockLand also unveiled that is has secured backing from strategic investors, including Silicon Valley’s Sinovel, Saudi Arabia’s NTDP, and European accelerator Startup Wise Guys.
