Startup of the Year Finalist Glüxkind Rolls Out Smart Strollers

September 8, 2025 by Robert Lewis Leave a Comment

Glüxkind, a Vancouver-based startup and finalist for the Company of the Year – Startup award at the 2025 BC Tech Technology Impact Awards (TIAs), is tackling the everyday realities of parenting with an invention that could redefine the stroller market.

“Parenting comes with many challenges—navigating busy streets while sleep-deprived, multitasking while caring for your little one, and balancing safety with comfort and convenience,” says co-founder Anne Hunger. “We set out to create a stroller that truly supports parents in their day-to-day lives, not just getting kids from A to B.”

The World’s First AI-Powered Stroller

At the core of Glüxkind’s innovation is Rosa, the world’s first AI-powered smart stroller. Borrowing safety features from the automotive world, Rosa automatically brakes on slopes, detects obstacles, and even integrates features like self-rocking and white noise to help families establish routines wherever they go.

Unlike traditional strollers, Glüxkind’s models “actively assist the parent, offering a new standard in both safety and convenience,” Hunger explains.

Growth and Global Recognition

Since launching, Glüxkind has grown from a founding team into a diverse team of engineers, innovators, and parents. Their products have received CES Innovation Awards and have been featured everywhere from Forbes and Good Morning America to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Following its CES 2024 debut, Rosa is now in the hands of parents across five countries. Early adopters in North America and Europe say it’s transforming how they move through their day. The company has also forged strategic partnerships, secured patents, and built connections through global accelerators like Techstars.

Overcoming Pandemic-Era Challenges

Like many hardware startups, Glüxkind faced hurdles ranging from supply chain disruptions to pandemic travel restrictions. But the biggest challenge, Hunger says, was launching “an entirely new category.”

“We had to earn the trust of parents and help them see AI not as something that replaces connection with their child, but as a partner in safety and support,” she recalls. “Listening to our customers’ questions and concerns, iterating, and testing relentlessly has allowed us to turn our customers into our biggest ambassadors.”

Rooted in Vancouver

Being based in B.C. has influenced Glüxkind’s design and culture. The stroller was inspired by Vancouver’s walkable yet hilly neighbourhoods, where safety and convenience are daily concerns for parents.

“Local families were incredibly supportive, sharing feedback and testing early features—something crucial in building a product that truly meets parents’ needs,” Hunger notes.

On the business side, Canada’s IRAP, SR&ED, and other programs provided critical support in building a complex hardware product. Combined with B.C.’s AI and robotics talent, Hunger says the local ecosystem has been “instrumental in helping Glüxkind grow and compete globally.”

A Moment of Validation

For Hunger and her team, being named a BC Tech Startup of the Year finalist is about more than just recognition.

“Working on a startup can feel very isolating,” she admits. “It’s very rewarding to get external recognition from organizations like BC Tech. It validates that we’re not developing our products in a void—that others see the value our inventions provide today and the potential they have for positive change in the future.”

Glüxkind’s nomination underscores the company’s vision: that technology born in Vancouver can improve the lives of parents everywhere and make family life safer, easier, and more inclusive.
