SkiKrumb Launches at Mt. Washington, Bringing GPS Safety Tech to the Slopes

October 8, 2025 by Techcouver Newsdesk Leave a Comment

Westbank’s skiKrumb, an award-winning GPS tracking technology built specifically for ski resorts, will make its Vancouver Island debut at Mt. Washington Alpine Resort for the 2025/26 season.

Starting this winter, families can purchase skiKrumb devices online for season-long use, while children enrolled in Mt. Washington’s snow school programs will have access to the devices as part of their lessons—offering parents and instructors real-time tracking and greater peace of mind on the slopes.

Developed in British Columbia, skiKrumb is the world’s first radio-based GPS tracker designed for ski resorts, engineered to work where smartphones and Bluetooth tags fail. The system performs reliably in cold weather, dense forests, and remote terrain, providing 10-second live location updates, instant SOS alerts, and route replays through a simple mobile app.

“Having directed snow school operations at Whistler for many years, I’ve seen firsthand the challenge of keeping track of large numbers of young skiers spread out over large terrain,” said Russ Wood, Sales Manager at skiKrumb and former Whistler Snow School Director.

“skiKrumb adds an essential layer of safety and efficiency to lesson management. Instructors can focus on teaching and kids can focus on learning, while parents gain peace of mind knowing everyone is accounted for.”

Founder and CEO Keith Macintyre said the idea for skiKrumb was inspired by a frightening personal experience. “skiKrumb was born out of my own experience of getting separated from my son when he was young—the longest 45 minutes as a parent,” he explained. “That moment sparked our mission: to keep families connected and safe on the mountain while letting kids explore their love of skiing.”

The Mt. Washington rollout marks the latest addition to skiKrumb’s growing list of Canadian partner resorts, which already includes Big White, Revelstoke, Sun Peaks, SilverStar, Mt. Sima, and Apex.

With the launch, skiKrumb continues to establish itself as a key player in smart outdoor safety tech—ensuring that no skier, big or small, ever gets left behind.
