Vancouver-based IDmelon, a secure sign-in solution provider known for its innovative passwordless authentication platform, has been acquired by HID, the Austin-headquartered global leader in trusted identity solutions.
Founded in 2019, IDmelon streamlines the adoption of passwordless authentication by transforming existing identifiers—such as physical credentials, smartphones, or biometrics—into enterprise-grade FIDO security keys. In addition to its software platform, the company also offers hardware devices that support the FIDO standard, creating a seamless and secure login experience for users.
“Users have become acutely aware of the problems with passwords,” said Björn Lidefelt, Executive Vice President and Head of HID. “By adding IDmelon to the HID family, we now provide an easier path to passwordless.”
The FIDO (Fast Identity Online) standard, often referred to as “passkey,” is gaining traction as a phishing-resistant alternative to passwords. While many enterprises rely on hardware security keys like USB or NFC tokens, IDmelon’s technology allows organizations to use existing cards or mobile devices as secure FIDO keys—reducing friction and cost during the transition to passwordless systems.
The IDmelon FIDO Management Platform simplifies enterprise adoption by centralizing authentication management. Administrators can import users, assign credentials, enforce policies, and monitor authentication activity, while employees can log in securely with a PIN or biometric. The platform enhances operational efficiency by merging physical and digital access into one streamlined solution.
“At IDmelon, our vision is to empower people and organizations to stay focused on their businesses and thrive knowing that their identities are protected,” said Bahram Piri, CEO and founder of IDmelon. “By joining forces with HID, we are in an even stronger position to help organizations overcome the growing problem of passwords to secure them against phishing and other credential-based attacks.”
IDmelon joins HID’s Identity and Access Management Solutions (IAMS) business area, operating within the Authentication Business Unit and supported by HID’s global sales and operational network.
The acquisition marks another milestone in Vancouver’s growing cybersecurity and digital identity ecosystem—cementing the city’s reputation as a hub for world-class authentication technology.
