Amazon and Rivian Roll Out Electric Delivery Vans in Vancouver

October 23, 2025 by Robert Lewis Leave a Comment

Amazon has rolled out its first fleet of electric delivery vans (EDVs) in Canada, with 50 custom Rivian-built vehicles now delivering packages across Greater Vancouver. The move marks a major milestone in Amazon’s effort to decarbonize its transportation network and achieve net-zero carbon emissions across operations by 2040.

“Amazon has always been committed to offering the fastest delivery speeds for our customers, and it’s tremendously exciting to now launch our first major initiative targeting the decarbonization of our local delivery fleet,” said Eva Lorenz, Vice President and Country Manager, Amazon Canada.

The new vehicles will operate from Amazon’s DYV1 delivery station in Delta, B.C., in partnership with two local Amazon Delivery Service Partners.

“This initiative reflects Amazon’s broader mission to build a transportation network that works for our customers, our communities, and our planet,” added Jasmin Begagic, Director of AMZL Canada.

Amazon first announced its partnership with Rivian in 2019 as part of its commitment to The Climate Pledge, which aims for net-zero carbon by 2040. Rivian’s Vice President of B2B Growth and Business Development, Tom Solomon, said the new vans are “engineered to be the superior choice for fleets,” combining safety, comfort, and sustainability.

The vans feature 360-degree visibility, adaptive cruise control, collision warnings, and integrated technology that connects directly with Amazon’s delivery workflow. Drivers benefit from innovations such as automatic door locking and unlocking, ventilated seats, and an ergonomic cabin designed for ease and safety.

Amazon plans to have 100,000 Rivian electric delivery vehicles on the road globally by 2030. More than 35,000 are already operating worldwide, delivering over 1.5 billion packages and helping reduce millions of metric tons of carbon emissions each year.
