Novarc Unveils World’s First Fully Autonomous TIG Welding System

November 3, 2025 by Techcouver Newsdesk Leave a Comment

Burnaby’s Novarc Technologies has launched the world’s first fully autonomous TIG welding solution, marking a milestone for Canada’s advanced manufacturing sector.

The full-stack AI robotics company unveiled SWR™ TIPTIG Autonomy during its “Unveiling AI in Welding” event at its new headquarters in Burnaby, highlighting both the company’s growth and British Columbia’s leadership in robotics and automation.

Developed entirely in B.C., the new system integrates artificial intelligence and machine learning to deliver precision and consistency previously unattainable in TIG welding — a process traditionally reliant on manual control by highly skilled welders. By automating this complex technique, Novarc aims to help industries such as shipbuilding, nuclear, energy, and clean technology overcome skilled labour shortages while boosting productivity, safety, and weld quality.

Novarc is a member of the BC Tech Association.

“Novarc’s new AI-driven welding technology is helping Canadian manufacturers build faster and boost their productivity,” said Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and Minister responsible for Pacific Economic Development Canada. “PacifiCan is proud to invest in innovative companies like Novarc that are creating solutions for industries to help build a stronger Canadian economy and a better future for British Columbians.”

“AI is transforming every part of our economy,” added Paul Choi, Parliamentary Secretary for Trade. “Companies like Novarc and their AI-powered welding technology demonstrate B.C.’s tech excellence while improving worker safety and productivity, helping establish B.C. as a North American AI hub.”

According to Soroush Karimzadeh, CEO of Novarc Technologies, the company’s latest innovation “promises to solve challenges being voiced by multiple industry players across Canada faced with a shortage of skilled welders.”

He said SWR TIPTIG Autonomy “elevates existing TIPTIG capabilities to new heights, made possible by Novarc’s artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies.”

The unveiling cements Novarc’s position as a leader in AI-driven robotics for industrial automation, and underscores how B.C.’s growing technology ecosystem continues to power national innovation in advanced manufacturing.
