Spexi revealed this week a partnership with SkyWatch.
Spexi is a Vancouver startup developing North America’s largest standardized ultra-high-resolution drone imagery network to help organizations collect and access detailed aerial data to power next-generation use cases.
Kitchener-based geospatial data aggregation platform SkyWatch, meanwhile, “was built to simplify access to Earth observation data for organizations everywhere,” according to cofounder James Slifierz.
Now, with the integration of Spexi’s data into Content Store, SkyWatch brings together satellite, traditional aerial, and drone imagery, giving users a more comprehensive suite of tools.
Users will be able to browse, purchase, and integrate Spexi’s imagery at speed and scale, according to chief executive officer Bill Lakeland.
“Through SkyWatch’s Content Store for ArcGIS, we’re thrilled that Spexi imagery will now reach those users directly,” Lakeland stated.
“At the same time, making Spexi’s imagery available to SkyWatch’s own customers extends our mission to deliver accessible, high-resolution data that supports critical decisions across industries,” the CEO added.
“By integrating Spexi’s ultra-high-resolution drone imagery, we’re expanding what users can do, wherever they work, by bringing together satellite, aerial, and drone data through a single, connected infrastructure that makes the world’s imagery easier to access and use,” Slifierz said.
The B.C. firm’s dataset has also proven valuable for training AI models, which rely on large volumes of high-quality, real-world data, according to the upstart, among other practical applications.
Founded in 2017, Spexi has raised a total of more than US$20M from investors, including a Series A last year and a seed round in 2022.
SkyWatch was founded in Ontario by Slifierz alongside Roland Sing and Dexter Jagula after the trio met at a NASA Space Apps Challenge in 2014.
