This AI App from MindBio Therapeutics Can Detect Drug Intoxication by Voice

January 26, 2026 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

A Vancouver-based MindBio Therapeutics recently announced a successful showcase of its new AI-powered intoxication detection technology.

The B.C. biotech firm has been conducting clinical health research through which it has developed what it believes to be a world first: an AI prediction tool for drug and alcohol intoxication detection using voice.

The human voice is produced through a complex neuromuscular system, which means that any substance affecting the central nervous system “inevitably manifests in measurable vocal changes,” according to the company.

Unlike blood tests or breathalyzers, voice analysis is completely non-invasive, requires no specialized equipment, and can be performed remotely, rendering it practical for many applications.

“Our voice and AI-powered intoxication detection technology is an exciting new non-invasive diagnostic tool that has broad implications for the detection of internal health, wellness, and disease states,” remarked chief executive officer Justin Hanka.

Hanka says that the voice analytics solution being developed by MindBio is a “game-changer” for intoxication detection in workplace environments, particularly where drug and alcohol testing is mandated by regulators, such as the mining industry, aviation, and construction, as well as where high volume testing at scale for a variety of drugs and alcohol presents challenges for management.

Leveraging more than 50 million data points from drug and alcohol clinical trials and proprietary algorithms across over 100 acoustic parameters, MindBio is now commercializing its technology which is activated by voice and powers by AI to predict alcohol intoxication with “remarkable accuracy” (~88%).

The move comes as MindBio lists shares for trading on the OTCQB Market.

Moving forward, MindBio intends to expand its intoxication detection technologies to detect other prohibited drugs that are even more difficult to detect at scale and volume.

Building on the Booze AI app launched in 2025, MindBio is also looking to launch an enterprise version.

MindBio was founded in 2021.
