Photonic Adds Executive Chair, Four Directors After $180M Raise

February 20, 2026 by Techcouver Newsdesk Leave a Comment

Vancouver quantum computing company Photonic has appointed an executive chair and four new directors following its recent $180 million funding round.

Joining founder Stephanie Simmons and CEO Paul Terry on the board are Alex van Someren (Executive Chair), Don Mattrick (Vice Chair), Nathan Medlock, and Ashton Scordo.

British entrepreneur and investor van Someren, founder of encryption firm nCipher and former UK national security scientific adviser, previously backed Photonic through Amadeus Capital and returns to lead the board.

Gaming industry veteran Mattrick, former CEO of Zynga and senior executive at Microsoft and Electronic Arts, joins as vice chair. Medlock represents lead investor Planet First Partners, while Scordo joins from long-time investor BCI.

“These appointments strengthen our ability to scale distributed quantum technologies,” said Terry.

The changes follow Photonic’s recent partnership with TELUS to develop quantum-secure networking using existing fibre infrastructure.

Departing the board are Nanon De Gaspé Beaubien-Mattrick and Gordon Fyfe.
