With Web Summit Vancouver 2026 set to bring thousands of global investors, founders and technology leaders to the city, Innovate BC has been working since November to prepare B.C. startups for the international spotlight.
Through its Road to Web Summit Vancouver (R2WSV) initiative, Innovate BC is delivering targeted programming designed to help local companies sharpen their fundraising strategy, refine their positioning and maximize investor engagement ahead of the global conference.
One of the sessions in the R2WSV series takes place April 22 with Scaling Venture Series: Venture Financing Term Sheet Fight Club. The event will feature a live mock negotiation between a venture capital investor and a founder-CEO, supported by their respective legal teams.
The session offers a behind-the-scenes look at how critical elements of a financing term sheet are debated and structured — including valuation, equity allocation, control provisions, liquidation preferences and board composition. By walking through a real-world negotiation scenario, the workshop aims to demystify venture financing dynamics for growth-stage companies preparing to raise capital.
Attendance is limited to growth-stage startups, and space is restricted.
For companies accepted into the Web Summit Vancouver Startup Program, Innovate BC will also host The Road to Web Summit Vancouver Bootcamp on May 6. The full-day intensive session is designed to provide tactical preparation ahead of the conference, including pitch refinement, investor targeting strategies, networking best practices and brand positioning.
With investor attention concentrated over just a few days during Web Summit, preparation can make the difference between a handful of conversations and meaningful follow-up opportunities. The bootcamp is intended to help B.C. founders approach the event with clear objectives, polished messaging and a defined outreach plan.
As Vancouver prepares to host one of the world’s largest technology gatherings, initiatives like R2WSV signal a coordinated effort to ensure local startups are not only present — but positioned to capitalize on global exposure.
For B.C. companies looking to raise capital, expand internationally or build strategic partnerships, the road to Web Summit Vancouver is already underway.
