Several clean technology projects based in British Columbia are receiving funding from the Province.
The provincial government this week revealed $6 million through The Innovative Clean Energy Fund for six local projects.
“It’s important that we support homegrown innovations to strengthen our leadership in clean energy technology,” commented Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions.
For example, Burnaby’s Blueforce Electrification Technologies attracted $1.276 million to develop technology that converts internal combustion engine vehicles into zero-emission.
“Many fleet operators want to transition to zero-emission vehicles but simply don’t have practical EV options available today,” explains Vandad Saniee, who functions as head of business development for BlueForce.
“Support from the Innovative Clean Energy Fund allows us to accelerate advanced electrification solutions that give existing vehicles a second life, reduce emissions, and support a more circular and sustainable approach to fleet modernization,” Saniee remarked.
Vancouver-based Foresight 50 firm Rainforest Automation is getting $700K to build a demand-response management system to help utilities manage energy in real time.
MegaHertz Power Systems, also based in Vancouver, garnered $800K to create a power converter that increases power conversion efficiency up to 99.5%.
Langley’s Green Matters Technologies is receiving $880K to innovate a high-efficiency heat pump designed to replace traditional chillers and gas boilers in the brewing industry.
CRWN.ai, out of Kelowna, garnered $1.5M to build technology that provides real-time data on electrical leakage for utilities. The Okanagan innovator, launched in 2022, develops early warning technology that detects electrical problems on power lines before they spark wildfires, and recently drew NorthX funding slated to support the deployment of up to 500 monitoring devices in BC.
Vitalis Equipment Technology, also out of Kelowna, is getting $750K to develop a centralized carbon-dioxide-based heating and cooling system designed for multi-unit residential and light commercial buildings.
Since 2024, the Innovative Clean Energy Fund has allocated more than $9 million to 10 clean-energy technology projects.
“These clean-technology solutions will make using clean electricity easier for people and businesses, increase reliability and efficiency of our grid and help build our energy resilience,” stated Dix.
The Innovative Clean Energy Fund has launched its next targeted call for clean energy innovation, which is open now until June 15.
