As Vancouver prepares to welcome global soccer fans, Rogers is upgrading its 5G+ network across the city to improve connectivity for visitors and residents during one of the world’s biggest sporting events.
The company announced a $5 million investment to enhance network coverage in key areas across Vancouver, including BC Place, fan zone locations, hotels, SkyTrain stations, and high-traffic areas downtown.
“As Canada’s best 5G+ network, we continue to invest in venues so fans can stay connected when it matters most,” said Mark Kennedy, Chief Technology Officer at Rogers. “These enhancements ensure our network is ready for global events like FIFA, while delivering long-term benefits for Canadians in Vancouver.”
The Vancouver upgrades include additional 5G+ spectrum and technology at BC Place, building on the $10 million network investment Rogers made in the venue ahead of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour. According to Rogers, that previous investment was the equivalent of adding 22 cell towers in downtown Vancouver.
Rogers is also adding 5G+ upgrades at fan zones, hotels, and SkyTrain stations to help keep visitors connected as they move throughout the city. The company will deploy temporary Cells on Wheels and Cells on Light Facilities in busy downtown areas to support increased demand during the tournament.
5G+ networks are designed to support large crowds at live stadium events by delivering faster speeds, lower latency, and greater capacity.
The company is also investing heavily in Toronto, where it has completed a $22 million network build at BMO Field and surrounding areas ahead of the FIFA World Cup.
Rogers says customers on its 5G+ Ultimate plan will also have access to Priority Network Access, which gives users front-of-the-line access to the company’s fastest available speeds during peak periods.
