B.C. Innovators Earn Spots on Global Cleantech 50 to Watch

October 14, 2026 by Robert Lewis Leave a Comment

Metro Vancouver companies Anodyne Chemistries and Voxelis AI are among the Canadian ventures named to Cleantech Group’s 2026 Cleantech 50 to Watch, joining fellow B.C. innovators FireSwarm Solutions and CRWN.AI.

Released today, the annual list recognizes early-stage companies positioned to shape the next wave of cleantech innovation. This year’s honourees span 12 countries, with Canada claiming 11 of the 50 spots, second only to the United States.

The B.C. contingent brings together technologies addressing industrial emissions, wildfire response, and electricity-grid resilience.

Burnaby-based Anodyne Chemistries is developing a cleaner approach to chemical manufacturing. Its bioelectric platform combines electrochemistry with enzymes and catalysts to convert carbon dioxide, water, and renewable electricity into useful chemical feedstocks. Founded in 2021 by Iain Evans and Manou Davies, the company is targeting lower-carbon alternatives for industrial customers.

Richmond-based Voxelis AI is applying airborne sensing and artificial intelligence to wildfire operations. Its technology delivers thermal imagery, environmental data, and AI-generated insights to pilots, ground crews, and incident commanders, helping teams understand conditions and coordinate their response.

Nearby in Squamish, FireSwarm Solutions is developing autonomous coordination technology for aerial wildfire suppression. Its system is designed to turn heavy-lift aircraft into a coordinated response capability, extending operations into conditions where conventional aerial firefighting can be constrained.

Kelowna’s CRWN.AI approaches wildfire risk from the prevention side. The company uses sensors and AI-powered analysis to detect signs of deteriorating electrical equipment, giving utilities information to address problems before they cause outages or ignite fires.

The list also includes CURA, a company with Vancouver roots that moved its leadership team to Calgary in December 2025. Its technology, originally developed at UBC, targets emissions from cement manufacturing.

Cleantech Group says this year’s selection reflects growing demand for technologies that support energy security, resilient supply chains, and adaptation to extreme heat and other climate impacts.

“With certainty, we’ve exited the days of the green premium,” said Anthony DeOrsey, Research Manager at Cleantech Group. “We’re now firmly entering the age of the sovereignty premium that is likely to define the late 2020s.”

For B.C.’s honourees, those priorities connect industrial decarbonization with the practical work of protecting communities and critical infrastructure.
