It’s fair to say 2021 was an improvement on 2020. The pandemic recovery dominated tech – like all else – with many of us spending more time than ever in front of screens.
Not surprisingly, Techcouver had a banner year with site traffic growing every month during 2021.
As we look forward to a much better 2022, let’s take a moment to reflect on what the Vancouver tech community read and shared online over the past 12 months.

- While the Canadian corporate headquarters in B.C. will remain in Burnaby, the move marks an expansion of EA’s footprint within Metro Vancouver. – Jul. 30th
3. Rivian Plans To Double Vancouver Workforce To 150 By End Of 2021
- Located in the old Mini dealership on Homer Street, Rivian has stealthily built up its workforce to 75 people and is aggressively hiring with plans to double that number in Vancouver. – Jul. 28th
4. East Side Games To Launch Mobile Game Based On TV Comedy The Office
- The LEAF Mobile subsidiary announced their next free-to-play mobile title, The Office: Somehow We Manage, inspired by the U.S. version of NBC’s The Office. – Jul. 28th
5. North Vancouver To Be World’s First City Heated By Bitcoin
- The City of North Vancouver and Lonsdale Energy Corporation will be introducing a novel heat source to their district energy system: bitcoin mining. – Oct. 18th
6. Kelowna’s Lomi Is Tackling Food Waste With A Home Composting Machine
- After chopping fruits and vegetables, what do you do with the waste? Enter Lomi, the world’s first kitchen appliance that will turn food scraps, boxes, cloth and bioplastics into dirt within 24 hours. – Apr. 18th

8. World’s First Tesla Electric Logging Trucks Coming To Vancouver Island
- If you’re driving on Vancouver Island, look out for Tesla’s futuristic semi-trucks hauling B.C. timber. Mosaic Forest Management has partnered with EcoWest Driven to introduce several Tesla semi-trucks. – Apr. 9th

10. Vancouver Joins Toronto and Seattle As Fastest Growing Tech Cities
- Vancouver added more than 24,000 tech jobs from 2016 to 2020, an increase of more than 36%, according to a new analysis by the CBRE real estate firm. – Jul. 13th
