Since inception, Vancouver-based technology startup Trickfilm Entertainment has been on a mission to redefine how animation intellectual property owners monetize their content.
As part of this pursuit, they harnessed the power of real-time rendering engines, cloud services, and blockchain technology to connect animation producers directly to their audiences—a feat previously considered unattainable.
Trickfilm says it is now stepping up to further transform the landscape of animated content production.
Following their vision to democratize the production, distribution, and monetization of animated entertainment, the BC firm has launched “Trickfunder,” a crowdfunding platform dedicated to animation creators.
Trickfunder, a feature integrated into the Trickfilm platform, enables creators to rally funds for their dream animation projects. They can outline campaign details, including target amounts, timelines, and a description of their projects. And to incentivize potential backers, creators can offer exclusive rewards such as unique access to the production process, digital downloads of the finished product, or producer credits.
“We’re excited to launch Trickfunder and provide a platform for creators to raise funds for their projects,” stated Trickfilm CEO Jeremy McCarron. “We believe that Trickfunder will be a great resource for creators to bring their projects to life.”
Trickfilm’s innovative journey has been supported by a 2021 investment partnership with Xentrix Studios, a CG animation studio known for its work in TV and branded 4D theme parks.
The Canadian startup’s potential was also recognized when it received a $100,000 contribution from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program, a federal program committed to supporting the commercialization of innovative Canadian technologies.
Earlier this year, Trickfilm launched the world’s first Real-Time Animation Festival. The festival leveraged EPIC Games’ Unreal Engine to celebrate and broadcast films created with it.
The Vancouver startup is working to carve out a new path in animation, heralding an era where artists can create, distribute, and monetize their work in a straightforward way. From a crowdfunding platform dedicated to animation to real-time animation festivals, Trickfilm is not just predicting the future of animation but actively building it.
