With a keen eye for gaps in the market, natural health expert Dr. Julie Durnan leveraged her 15 years of industry experience to found Ginger Desk after observing how practitioners grappled with admin tasks.
Durnan envisioned a service that could shoulder these burdens and allow practitioners to focus on their core responsibilities.
Ginger Desk aims to replace conventional medical office staff with its tech-enabled approach at one-quarter the cost.
To fuel this vision, the B.C. firm raised a $1.5 million seed round led by Disruption Ventures in 2024.
This week, Durnan revealed that her startup has been acquired by local unicorn Jane.
Founded in 2014, Jane powers software for wellness practitioners everywhere.
As part of the acquisition, Durnan is joining Jane as Head of Services.
Jane is a member of the BC Tech Association.

What mattered most to Durnan, though, was that her own employees were protected through the transition. That happened.
“Jane welcomed all 53 members of the Ginger Desk team, and watching them not only find a home here, but truly thrive has been one of the greatest joys of my career,” Durnan remarked.
Moving forward, the Ginger Desk founder says she gets to “keep doing what I love most: building exceptional teams, creating remarkable experiences for healthcare practices, and helping shape what’s next.”
Founded in North Vancouver by Alison Taylor and Trevor Johnston, Jane is a 2026 Technology Impact Award finalist and was recently recognized with a Silver Stevie Award for Customer Service Department of the Year in Computer Software at the 20th annual Stevie Awards for Sales & Customer Service.
